Shea+Latone Inc. is looking for a well-rounded prototype technician / prototyper with the unique skill set required to handle a wide range of fabrication work in a product development shop and test lab. Tasks range from fabrication and finishing of looks-like and works-like prototypes, to building production and testing fixtures. This position requires a wide range of fabrication skills, creative problem solving abilities and technical knowledge. A strong ability to work within a team environment while being a self-starter is imperative. This position is not for production fabrication and requires a creative thinker, inventive spirit, and a jack-of-all-trades knowledge base to handle the unique challenges S+L faces each day.

Qualifications and Skills

* fabrication using a wide variety of materials and processes including manual machining and turning, welding, painting, and finishing

* knowledge of basic mechanics including pneumatics, wiring, mechanisms, etc.

* ability to read technical drawings and create basic shop drawings

* ability to translate design ideas into working mockups with little guidance

* strong attention to detail is a must

* familiarity with rapid prototype techniques and mold making is a must

* experience running and building testing equipment, automation, and PLC programming is a plus

* light familiarity with Solidworks or other CAD software is a must

* must be comfortable in a team environment

* must be professional and courteous with co-workers and customers

* high school diploma with applicable experience or technical training at minimum required

* a bachelor’s degree in industrial design or similar with a focus on prototyping is a plus

* must have reliable transportation as client day trips may be necessary

* must have ability to work 40hrs per week M-F with a focus on staying until the job is done
